In general, the goal of educators is to encourage and guide their students to be the best that they can be. Whether it be via social media or in the general way they live their lives, educators must model appropriate behavior. It starts with taking the time to “make students feel safe and comfortable in your classroom” (Curtis, 2019, para. 6). Along with being a role model for students, it is also important for educators to teach students how to become leaders. In addition, teachers have to be real with their students. Being vulnerable with them will allow them to be vulnerable with you. It is when a teacher lets down their guard to “show the students [you] are a person just like them” (Clarendon Learning, 2017, para. 4) that they realize it is ok to be human. That no one is perfect and that it is ok to make mistakes. The success of a teacher is not determined by how well his/her students perform on exams. It is measured by how much better each student has become as a result of being part of his/her class. This will have a much more positive and long-term impact on the lives of students. The simplest way to explain this is to model the behavior for your students that you believe would be pleasing to God. That is when you know you are doing what you should do.
